Jamboree Community Kindergarten

A “meeting place” for children to explore, discover, engage and play

Jamboree Kindy

About Us

Our name “Jamboree” means meeting place. The line of happy children under the big bright sun is our logo.

Our association was formed in December 1990 to establish and manage a community Kindergarten and Preschool Centre in the Centenary Suburbs. The formation of the association was precipitated by the decision of the Uniting Church to close their Kindergarten at Jindalee after about 20 years of operation.

Mrs Rosemary Lacey was our founding Director. A management committee was elected and its immediate aim was to establish and open a Kindergarten in 1991 to maintain continuity of kindergarten facilities in our area. The dedication, energy and enthusiasm of the founding members ensured the successful establishment of the Association and building of the centre in Jamboree Heights.

The kindergarten began operating in our current premises in 1993. In 2018 the kindergarten community celebrated 25 years in the current building. Jamboree Community Kindergarten has always been affiliated with C&K .

Our Learning Environment.

Our purpose-built community kindergarten has inviting learning environments filled with spaces and resources for children to explore, to create, to discover, to enthuse, to build, to lead, to share.
Children are encouraged daily to use the wide variety of resources available to develop their interests, imagination and creativity.

Indoor Space to Inspire

Our indoor environment provides opportunities for enriching play with puzzles, blocks, painting, drawing, books, role play, dramatic play, investigative areas and much more. Each space is filled with innovative and sustainable education materials, inspired to connect with science, nature, culture and community.

Outdoor Space to Explore

Our outdoor environment provides opportunities for play and exploration with natural materials including sand, water, mud, grass, vegetable gardens, loose parts. Playground equipment and a movable obstacle course encourage children to develop their gross motor skills through swinging, climbing, balancing, jumping and more.

Connections to Grow

Our stunning and richly rewarding natural surrounds and adjacent parkland has given JCK the opportunity to establish a unique Bush Kindy Program. With the help of our local councillor and Brisbane City Council, our program actively supports children to connect with the environment, collaborate as a team and grow.

The huge sandpit is a massive hit with our boys. Our children absolutely adore the educators at kindy, and the communication from teachers has been invaluable this year. Bush Kindy, the focus on sustainability and the visitors/shows are our favourite part of the program at kindy. “We could not be happier at JCK. The educators are wonderful and our children are exposed to a vast array of topics. They have a beehive and possum living at the kindy that all the children LOVE. Bush Kindy is always exciting, there is a deep connection to our land and appreciation for the diverse range of people and cultures within our community. JCK is the perfect place to get acquainted with the education system and prepare for school.”

The staff are amazing, very attentive and caring towards the children and their families. Our child is excited to go to “school” and loves to come home and share his day with us. The children are provided with a variety of experiences such as incursions, bush kindy and library borrowing to name a few. Families are very much a part of the kindy and are invited in for special days and performances by the children throughout the year. We highly recommend JCK to all families looking for a kindy.”
